When I start KDE, my mouse cursor is a double crosshair, when I click, I get two beeps from system speaker. This happens two or more times, then cursor becomes normal. Where do I look for logs etc to investigate?
Platform Version 4.6.5 (4.6.5) “release 7”
This has started to happen recently…

No-one has a clue? I have asked also on the IRC channel… Should I try asking the KDE people?

Maybe .xsession-errors in your home directory. Otherwise talking to KDE people might be the best you can do.
Does this happen if you try a new user?
