I’m running openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64), KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) “release 6” and it’s great, but there are two annoying problems:
-
I have the task bar on autohide, it works OK if I only call it back with the mouse, but if I use the short-cut (I think the default is “Alt+F1”) to call the start-menu, the task-bar will never go back into hiding … until I log out and log in again.
That’s very annoying, since I love using the shortcut, type in the name of the program I want in this search-box and hit enter to start it.
Is this is a bug or do I do something wrong?
-
GQView is my favourite image viewer, but for some reason in my current setup I can’t use drag and drop in it. I can drag the images to the folders, the folders are highlighted, but upon release the menu (“Copy”, “Move” …) does not appear and nothing happens - the file stays where it is, it is not copied into the folder, there is no error-message (yes, I checked with a console). In other KDE-programs like krusader or Gwenview the drag and drop works.
Oddly enough, if I start a session with GNOME instead of KDE, the drag and drop in GQView works - on the same machine in the same program. In my mind that shows that KDE is the problem. But I remember that on previous versions of opensuse+KDE the drag and drop worked in GQView.
Just for testing I installed the successor of GQView, geeqie, from source - it is basically the same program but slightly improved - and it is the same situation as in GQView.
What is going on?
Any help would be appreciated since I really like the system how it is, but those two details are really annoying and hamper my workflow.

i’ve never tried using an auto-hide panel with 4.6.0. i’m on 4.6.2 now and
tried it, setting my main panel to ‘autohide’, and it works as expected,
i.e., disappears after using the application launcher (alt+F1). it’s
either a bug that has been fixed between KDE 4.6.0-2, or something in your
configuration. to eliminate the latter, you could create a new user acct.
and see if it works correctly then. if a new user acct. shows the same
behavior, i’d recommend upgrading to KDE 4.6.2, which is the latest stable
KDE release anyway.

The behaviour for both problems is the same in all user accounts, even in root.
Updating would certainly be a good idea, however I installed the system just yesterday via net-install and did all the online updates. KDE4.6.2 doesn’t show up? What do I do? Just wait?

i’m using KDE:/Distro:/Factory, from here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_11.4/
at least my mirror shows KDE:/Distro:/Stable still with 4.6.1 packages.
since KDE announced 4.6.2 as “recommended update for everyone”
(http://kde.org/announcements/announce-4.6.2.php ), i assume it will be
moved into :/Stable repos soon.

please excuse me if this should sound patronizing: i don’t know how
comfortable you are with switching repos, versions, and fixing ‘accidents’
if they happen. but these forums are read by many, and i would like to
make sure everyone understands that adding repos with “Factory” in their
name may lead to trouble–either immediately, or later on.
at present the KDE:/D:/Factory repo is very stable, but at times there’s
almost bound to be trouble, after switches to new major versions, per
example. anybody not asking for this type of trouble should stick to
stable repos – IMO not necessarily those that were published at openSUSE
release, but at least those that upstream designates as ‘stable’.
