Since switching from Gnome to KDE4, my monitor keeps blanking after 10 minutes or so. I’ve gone through Desktop settings > Advanced > Power Management and can’t find anything that would encourage this behaviour. Tried the “Display” tab but that just crashes.
This doesn’t happen in Gnome or Xfce so it must be something KDE-specific. Are there some hidden settings I could use? Looked at sysconfig in Yast but couldn’t find anything promising.
It’s not a showstopper as a mouse/keyboard movement makes the thing spring back to life but it’s annoying and prevents the screensaver from kicking in.
Go to
Config Desktop - Display - Power Control
remove check from ‘enable display power management’
apply
That was quick
Config Desktop > Display crashes, unfortunately.
… or alternatively, when I just tried it now, simply doesn’t start.
Is this kde4.1.3?
No, 4.2.3. I don’t mind hand-editing a configuration file if I knew which one…
Please post your repo’s, you should not have this crashing:

Dude.
Ever been to a sewage farm. They have containers full of brown smelly stuff.
You just fell in one!
Seriously what the heck are all those! Yikes man!
No wonder your system is unstable.
all you need is:
oss
non-oss
updates
Packman
kde 42 desktop
Index of /repositories/KDE:/42/openSUSE_11.1
kde 42 community
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1_KDE_42
Mozilla (if you must)
after doing that do a system wide unconditional update.
Maybe you will be OK.
I knew you were going to say that The result of countless 1-click-installs and other adventures with Gnome and Xfce…
Will drain the swamp as suggested and report back!
The only thing I would add to that is: If you need Nvidia for a video card, keep that too. And anything you are SURE you need.
But certainly kde4 Factory and kde4 42’ will conflict - just use 42’ repos
You do not need Videolan/libdvdcss, as once libdvdcss is installed that repo should be removed or at least disabled.
Seriously get it right down.
Done. Display setting works now, all neat and tidy Thanks for your help!
Well done mate. Thanks for letting us know.
