KDE Plasma sound level starts with 74% after every reboot

I want to start with a lower sound level, because 74%, the default level, is too loud. But when I change the sound level in KDE Plasma to e.g. 42% it’s back on 74% after the next reboot. How can I change the default sound level in Plasma?

**Audio: Device-1:** Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Family High Definition Audio **driver:** snd_hda_intel
**Device-2:** AMD Turks HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6500/6600 / 6700M Series] **driver:** snd_hda_intel
**Device-3:** Logitech Webcam C270 **type:** USB **driver:** snd-usb-audio,uvcvideo

           **Sound Server-1:** ALSA **v:** k5.14.21-150400.3-default **running:** yes
           **Sound Server-2:** PulseAudio **v:** 15.0 **running:** yes
           **Sound Server-3:** PipeWire **v:** 0.3.39 **running:** yes

Thanks for advice.

Are you sure it is connected to a reboot and not already to a logout/login only?

Are you using pipewire for sound?

the volume level is back to 74% after reboote. When I log out and log back in, the sound level stays at the value I set.

I have configured my sound card in YaST but this didn’t changed anything.

Do I use pipewire?

ps -e | grep pipewire
 2513 ? 00:00:00 **pipewire**
 2514 ? 00:00:00 **pipewire**-media-

I assume you should report this as a bug. Then they hopefully can correct it in 15.4 before it is released.

Okay, done:

The problem is that pipewire conflicts and reinitializes the audio while PulseAudio is in use. They thought this should have been already fixed and they will have a look.

Thanks for filing the bug report and for posting back here.

This is how α and β releases get better and better.

Which KDE Plasma version are you currently using for Alpha testing?

  • Please be aware that, there is planning that, openSUSE Leap 15.4 will use Plasma 5.24 LTS – which the KDE Community have planned but, not yet released – Release Date: current working view → the 8th of February 2022 …
