kde/plasma - kmail - font sizes

Anybody noticing how config options are removed with every update of plasma/kde? Is there a place where devs discuss this and ask for feedback? Or are those options just victims of “optimization” and code cleanup?

Specifically, the font sizing options seem to be popular for streamlining. It used to be possible to set a font size to taskbar entries. I saw a forum post where someone asked how to change the font size of dolphin side panels like Places and Folder treeview. That would interest me, too.

My current problem, though, is Kmail. Today’s update removed the font option for kmail’s folder panel. Size now seems to be the same as general desktop setting in kdeglobals, too large for me. Also, font size option for message list panel does not work at all. That size also seems to be the general desktop size. I do not want to lower the general workspace font size. I want specific data to be more visible than meta data. In other words, the message font size should be larger than message list or folder list. Likewise in dolphin, this folder’s file names should be larger than places or folder trees in side panels.

If those are bugs, I will happily write bug reports. But I have a feeling that all of this is intentional. Which would be a pity.

kmail currently is broken. Bug reports have already been made.

And the fixed packages are pushed out through TW’s Update repo, installing them right now.

Re. font sizes: are you comparing to KDE3 or KDE4? Plasma5 is a complete rewrite. It doesn’t have all the features KDE3 and KDE4 had (yet).

Regarding the font sizing: It somewhat works when going the other way around, i.e. not having a large desktop font and then making the other fonts smaller, but having a smaller general desktop font and then make the other fonts larger. That works for dolphin side panels because I can set the font of the main panel to a larger one. Also works for kmail because setting the message view font size larger still works. Not good but at least a workaround.

Actually, I am comparing since KDE2 but memory is fading fast

I love config options. Never understood how someone can feel overwhelmed by options. The options are the one thing that prevent me from buying a Mac. Anyway, I solved my current problem, see my other post in this thread. Thanks for caring.
