KDE panel random hangs/freezes

Hi,

using openSUSE 13.2 64bit and experiencing random KDE panel freezes. This happens once a week. During the week I don’t shut down the laptop, but suspend to ram. When issue happens all apps continue to work, I can do ALt+Tab to switch between them. But can’t start new as no menu available and can’t run launcher Alt+F2 . To kill session I do ctrl+alt+backspace twice

Please suggest troubleshooting steps: which logs to check? what to dump?
Or maybe it is known issue or something is already fixed and I must install update?

Not sure but there is a kernel bug that has caused other problems in KDE when mixed with BTRFS. You might think about moving up to a 3.17 kernel. It may help. Agreed this doe no seem to be the same problem but could be related

But 3.17 is not available officially, isn’t it? Should I install it from “unofficial” repos?

Well 3.17.2 is officially available on Tumbleweed. If you do choose to install 3.17, I recommend avoiding 3.17.1 as it had a different/worse bug leading to btrfs file corruption and in some cases a read-only root partition image. It was definitely fixed in 3.17.2 (for more info see original thread I started in Tumbleweed forum). It’s possible the fix was backported, but I don’t know for sure.

Just got another hang - and again noticed btrfs stacktrace in syslog
So will give a try 3.17.4 and report later if that resolves my issues
