Hi all,
I am trying to find out where in the system are the files that store information on the following:
keyboard shortcuts, and
which applications and which windows were open before the session ended.
Regarding (2): I really like the fact that when I log back in, OpenSuse pops up all the windows that I had open before I last logged out. I know that this information must be stored somewhere. And most probably in my home folder. But I can’t seem to find it in ~/.kde or ~/.kde4
Regarding (1): Again, I really like the Mac-OS style behavior that one gets with Ctrl+F9/F10. But sometimes I invoke it inadvertently when - as far as I can remember - my fingers were on the trackpad only. I have not been able to figure out how I do it. But I would like to be able to do it consciously - without pressing Ctrl+F9/F10. Does anyone know what could be happening. i have an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop with an otherwise annoyingly sensitive track pad.
These can be found by clicking on the Kickoff Menu (Application Launcher) then clicking on Configure Desktop (Personal Settings). On the bottom category Computer Administration click on Keyboard and Mouse. Then go to Global Keyboard Shortcuts. Here you can switch the KDE component and change the shortcuts. There’s also a Standard Keyboard Shortcuts for things like copy and paste.
Also regarding 1.) This is called the Expose effect in Mac. In KDE it’s called Present Windows. If you open up Configure Desktop again you’ll see the category Look & Feel, click on Desktop. Here you can change Desktop effects and the like. What you’re looking for is under Screen Edges. If you look, when you move your mouse to the top left of the screen, the Present Windows effect is turned on. You can turn this off or move it to another corner or screen edge or just keep it how it is.
Yes… Expose… For the life of me, I couldn’t remember the name…
But thanks for telling me about the top-left corner. That’s what I must have been doing (inadvertently).
Regarding where keyboard shortcuts are written: I was actually looking for the text configuration file. I want to understand what changes where when I edit shortcuts using the GUI.
