Couple of days ago I did ‘zypper up’ from the factory repo and installed all the updates, including the kernel-desktop-2.6.31-8.3. When I rebooted, my KDE4.3 was just a black screen with a white cursor. I tried deleting all the plasma files in .KDE4 but that didn’t help.
When I tried booting into KDE as root, everything was working normally. Then I created a new user and KDE is working fine with that user also.
Anyone know what went wrong with my original user?
There are a few errors about /var/screens, /var/uscreens and openSUSE firewall not being normal files when I boot into runlevel 3 as the original user.
Are you able to login as root under terminal? If so you need to remove your video driver and reinstall through terminal. Removing is not necessary but is advised. It is just the fact that the video driver needs to rebuild the kernel after a kernel update.
I’m just a little thrown by the fact that dependency resolution for the Intel driver normally deals with such things itself - it might in fact be a totally unrelated issue.
Thanks anyway - now I have bigger problems to worry about, so I’ll worry about this later…
