KDE freeze + session switch

Ok, these are two issues really.
The first is, that KDE freezes randomly for reason i can not comprehend.
Not specifically at a certain application, but most if i click the mouse to do a action. The mouse is moveable, but the rest is death. No icons react or even keyboard (death as well).

The second issue is perhaps only a settings thing.
I noticed that if i switch users, that for login to a current session from a different user the screen will be shown. Not good.
Can i disable this an have just a blank screen behind the password box? Now i am not 100% certain about this since my graphics kinda corrupted (driver) but last time i seen the screen and before it showed the screen saver.

I get the first problem with 11.2 and the second with 11.3. Which are you
using?

The second problem behaves differently for me depending on the graphics
card. With Radeon HD 2400 Pro it behaves as you describe. What is really
dodgy is that it is sometimes possible to make an action on the displayed
screen before logging on.

Hi, i am only using 11.3 and all these symptoms happen with the new version. With 11.2 i had no problem.
Now i know it as very new release and things happen.

I have a Nvidia GT8800 card and i let the driver that came with the installation. The system is 64bit since i have a E8500.
Also i have 4GB of ram in the system.
What else? Mmm… Oh yes, KDE v.4.4.4.

I have another machine that’s similar to yours except the nVidia card is
GeForce 210. Switching users gives me a black background. Mind you, this
“switch user” command can be a bit variable on my main machine, sometimes
going to the logon panel from which I have to select the “menu” option to
effect the switch.

Alcohol facts: Healthiest weekly amount is 21-30 units.
Consume 63 and you’ll live only as long as a teetotaller.

I installed the drivers from the repositories for the nvidia card and now everything seems to work like it was intended.
The only thing that remains is the ‘not’ blanked screen at switching the session. There must be a config for that.

Hi,
I have also the first freezing problem, that I did not have in my previous opensuse or suse versions (since 1998).
I was wondering whether this is not an update issue, i.e. an incompatibility with the previous version: instead of simply updating from a previous version (11.2 in this case) may be install 11.3 as a new installation ?
Cheers.

My tip is, that it might be the gfx driver since i don’t have any freezes (so far) with the nvidia driver.
But that is just a blind guess really.
With 11.2 i did not have any freezes, but i did not have KDE either (only a week before switching to 11.3).
If you have the ‘cutting edge’ driver try maybe nvidia from the repositories.
