KDE released SuSE 11.1 with KDE4.2.4 (see “KDE Four Live” CD](http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/)). How big of a change is this from KDE4.2.3, and is it worth the effort to upgrade?
Many have used this, I’m surprised you didn’t get a quick response. All I have read is good. Though mine is a dvd install.
I downloaded the live CD looks about the same as other 4.2.X KDE, but I couldn’t get the titlebar colors to stick except in blue. Everything else seemed to work though. If your using 4.2.3 I would stay there till the titlebar colors work or use the one click.I did the one click upgrade from a DVD install of 4.1 and 4.2.4 worked perfectly. But then your mileage may vary.
Here is how I upgraded it
KDE4.2.* (How To Add) Guide. - openSUSE Forums
Not much feedback from people who tried KDE4 live CD.
In fact, because of this, I found it difficult to propose to some newbies who wanted to try KDE4.
I’ve used it before when it was 4.2.2. And it added the correct repositories and everything. But they only come with KDE specific things. You have to download openoffice, pidgin, firefox…etc. Not bad if you know what you’re doing. Otherwise I get my live-cds from
Index of /repositories/KDE:/Medias/images/iso as they still come with the usual openSUSE defaults.
I now use the ones for factory everything (11.2 MS2 and KDE 4.3 beta 2) and they work fine as well.
I wonder, using the Build Service, why we cant make a torrent available for DVD/CD editions with latest patches applied and/or with some newer major software updates like KDE4 etc. They can be marked “unstable” too.
beineri’s blog | kdedevelopers.org with beineri doing the disk I doubt you’ll get a person better qualified.
For what ever reason 4.3 is being left from this, you would have to read the mailing list but IMO it makes sense. With the next factory/release including kde4.3
I’m not sure what the point of remastering a dvd/cd will achieve. A simple install enable the correct repos done, giving people the opportunity to use experimental software with out them understanding is asking for trouble. If people wish to run bleeding edge they should first understand what it means. Even with people having to enable factory repos you still get the few that expect it to be the latest and greatest and come here crying.
I won’t go into one clicks and build service and the repo structure needs sorting out. Plus the software up top left should point to webpin and webpin should search only OSS, Non-OSS and Packman.(There is a whole thread worth of comments, in the merits of this)
Sod attempting to support some poor first time user who has found the latest and greatest without understanding it is developing.
