I have installed KDE Connect on my workstation and S6 phone intending to copy files from PC to phone but initially could not get this to work. I have read several versions of the instructions on different web sites but there is no mention in what I have read about firewalls. I have only been able to pair the devices by turning off the firewall, which is what I anticipated but exactly what I should do to open particular ports for this should surely be included in the instructions. BTW how should I do what is needed?

If your firewall is **firewalld**, you can open the necessary ports with:
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --permanent --add-port=1714-1764/tcp
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --permanent --add-port=1714-1764/udp
sudo systemctl restart firewalld.service
If you use YaST - Security and Users - Firewall, you can even do this graphically. Select the public zone, and check the ‘kdeconnect’ item. That is all
Hi and thanks for both replies. I now have the devices confirming they are connecting but I am now getting error messages on the phone:-
Galaxy S6: Failed to mount filesystem device not res…
I tried allowing share on the properties of laptop file I created and set on the phone but the file exchange does not happen. Which settings need to be changed please?
Hahaha, I ran into that a while ago, after it had been working for a couple of years. The problem was on the Android side, I needed to permit KDEconnect to access the filesystem …
Strange. I had already set the App permission for access to storage. There must be another switch somewhere. Will google a bit.
It seems that it is necessary to define the directory in the phone before a file transfer is possible. I cannot browse to phone directory from computer but if I select directory in phone all seems well.
