KDE 4 to KDE 4.1 Myriad of problems when trying to update

Alright, so i started out with a fresh install of OpenSuse 11 64 bit. Added the repo’s

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.0
Index of /repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.0
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

And disabled all my other repos that have to do with KDE. The only ones i have enabled are ( other than the top 4 ):
openSUSE BuildService - Games
openSUSE BuildService - OpenOffice.org
Packman Repository
openSUSE BuildService - X11:XGL
openSUSE BuildService - Drivers for webcams
openSUSE BuildService - Mozilla
openSUSE BuildService - Wine CVS Builds
openSUSE-DVD 11.0
openSUSE-11.0-Updates
openSUSE-11.0-Non-Oss
openSUSE-11.0-Oss

But whenever i try to follow the instructions posted in the forum such as “Filter by Repository” and “Go to packages → Update Unconditionaly” or “Update if new version is available” i get a lot of dependency issues. and I do mean a lot…here is an example of what i get when trying to update the first repo:

Any clue as to what to do? I am scared of updating without the right dependencies as i dont want an all jacked up KDE 4.1 desktop. BUT i do want kde 4.1

You are at least doing things the right way. And your repo’s look OK.

Work the repo’s in this order
QT
kde4 desktop

When you do ‘Update Unconditionaly’ in QT, you should not get errors. Next do kde4 Desktop see if that will update.
Work through and report back

If that doesn’t work try using QT44 instead of QT repo. I know some are having to do so.

Thats what happens when i try to upgrade Qt…what is the repo for the Qt44? Maybe thats the one i need?

Also i just noticed, Nothing works on my KDE 4 desktop ( Dolphin, Konqueror etc )

What it is, is you have some old kde4.0 packages

kdepim4-4.0.80-9.3.x86_64 requires kdebase4-runtime < 4.0.60,
Have you tried
Update all in this list UNCONDITIONALLY ??

That should work

If not

work on this area in you conflict

replacement of kdebase4-workspace-plasmoids-4.0.1-71.2.x86_64 with kde4-plasma-addons-4.1.2-20.9.x86_64

and

kdepim4-4.0.80-9.3.x86_64 requires kdebase4-runtime < 4.0.60

but normally - using the unconditional upgrade will solve all issues.
But you need kdepim4 to be upgraded. It’s currently 4.1.2-50.5

When i try to update unconditionally… I used to be able to update to kde 4.1 i dont know what happened…i guess while i was away and i did a clean install some new packages were released and now its all wierd like this :S

Add a repository that provides the correct Qt.

At a quick glance it looks OK

Please check from Software management - filter by repo
select SYSTEM at the top of the list.
Are there any RED items
Also see if that’s the case in kde4

Maybe i need the Qt44 repo instead of the one i have? i dont know :S

I already updated the QT sql libs etc…

Ok Deleted KDE pim like you told me, seems to be able to update a lot of stuff…lets see how it goes.

alright, have kde 4.1 now good stuff. now the only problem i have is libxine and xine-lib conflics but i dont know how to fix those :S

keep libxine1 which should be from Packman

delete xine-lib

Basically, your multimedia stuff should be from Packman. If it find conflicts. Choose the change vendor option in the conflict workaround.

You do need libdvdcss from the VLC repo- but once you have that package, disable it. I just noticed it was not in your list of repo’s.

You can Usually do ‘upgrade all in this list if newer avail’ when in Packman - BUT sometimes there can be issues. Usually if updates elsewhere in your repo’s are not up to speed with Packman - OR depending on how many additional non-standard repo’s you have.
