I’ve just installed SUSE 11.0 w/ KDE 4 on a new Dell Optiplex 755. I’m set up with dual monitors in xinerama mode. In configuring the desktop I note a few issues (right click on desktop & select “Configure Desktop…”).
It appears that the wallpaper selection applies to all desktops. Is there any way to set the wallpaper for each desktop separately?
I also see no way to specify that the wallpaper is to be used across both monitors. Nor is that apparently the default behavior. So when I select a wallpaper it is only displayed on the primary monitor - the background on the other monitor stays the default SUSE green background.
I understand this is all very new software, but I’m hoping someone here knows how to configure these settings, even if the UI for it isn’t complete yet. Thanks!
Bump-- You can right click on the second monitor and change the background there as well. I still can’t find an option to span both monitors when xinerama is on or to specify different backgrounds on different desktops. Running 11.1

Can’t help on the multi-monitor/background scaling question…
But as for having a wallpaper per desktop (like in the old kde3.5 days) that
I can help with.
First you need to be running kde 4.3.x. This is what openSUSE 11.2 ships
with, but you can install it on 11.1 as well.
Second you need to be running the Folder or Desktop Containments - ie you
need to have the Cashew in the upper right corner of your desktop.
Click on the cashew icon to get the pop-out menu,
Select the Configure Plasma item,
Check off (enable) “Different Activity for each desktop”.
Click OK
Now you can set a unique wallpaper for each virtual desktop. You can also
have a unique set of Plasma Widgets on each desktop.
