KDE 4 doesn't work !!

Hi,
I have downloaded OpenSuse 11.1 KDE4 LiveCD version, when I reach the login screen and try to login using KDE4, it refuses to start and brings me back to the login screen … but when I try KDE4(failsafe) it works !!
So, what is the difference ? Is it ok to use it or I’m missing something with KDE4 failsafe ? like 3d acceleratoin for example ?
well, previously I had several unstabilities with kde 3.5.x that caused the X server to restart suddenly, but this one with KDE 4 doesn’t evenlet me in …
my video card is Intel 945…
I’m sorry if I’m asking too many question …
Thanks in advance …

What you mean is you downloaded and installed.

Failsafe uses safe graphics settings. If you can login from that, ok.

You need to see what SUSE is saying about your display. A good place to start is the My Computer icon (sysinfo) It should report some info there. I use intel and it worked out of the box.

eg

Vendor: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
Model: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM 20080716 x86/MMX/SSE2
Driver: 1.4 Mesa 7.2

Thank you for the reply,

actually I DID NOT install it, I just tried it from the live CD to make sure it works properly …

Yes, but what are they ? what I’m missing ? why KDE4 (normarl) doen’t work ?

My ‘sysinfo’ output is nearly the same as yours …, I’m sorry but I’m not using OpenSUSE write now to be 100% exact …

Thanks again for your help …

To be honest, if it works with failsafe that is fine. It just eliminates some hardware and graphics issues, it’s not unusual.

I prefer to use the DVD for install. You may find you have to boot that other than the default install.

If you are running a live cd and want to see if has setup 3D, open a konsole/terminal and type:

glxgears

It likely will not work from a failsafe boot. Intel works fairly well. You other concern might be wireless! Often an issue. Mine works out of the box. Just click the knetworkmanager icon and away you go.

Well, sometimes I need 3D acceleration…
I think I’ll go with the ‘gnome’ version of openSUSE… it worked from the live CD smoothly without an issue, so, the problem is probably a KDE4 issue …

Thank you…

Hi,
Good news…
I tried ‘glxgears’ to test 3D acceleratoin in failsafe kDE4…
and it worked…
