With the update to KDE 4.8.4 Kmail is rendered useless. If I try to forward a message or reply to one it crashes with a segfault (11). This problem occurred also in Arch and the problem was fixed with an update to soprano. Has anyone else had this, and if so, know of a fix?
It’s a known issue - well reported on in the Mailing List
I don’t use Kmail, sorry.
I’m sure it will get fixed, but no one seems in a rush to get it sorted from what I see.
Which mailing-list?
'found the mailing lists. Sorry for the noise. Remedy to avoid the crash: disable nepomuk.
If you disable nepomuk, do the suggestions from the addressbook work in kmail when you start typing an address?

I have a problem that must be related to yours. On 12.2 Beta1 with kmail
4.8.4 (KDE 4.8.4) anytime I select Message → new message or message to
mailing list kmail GUI just goes away. No seg fault message. If I boot
kmail from command line it tells me it cannot access outbox. My 12.1
system works because I have not updated to 4.8.4 (running 4.8.3)
I thought kmail (akonadi) could not run with nepomuk disabled?
Soon as I can reboot I will try it and see if kmail2 runs on 12.2. My
12.2 hardware is same as listed below except for the disk its on and I
have not been able to install Nvidia driver. 12.2 is running grub2 dual
boot.

Since you’re referring to 12.2 Beta, please post about it in the Prerelease-Beta forums.
The root cause of the segfaults in kmail 4.8.4 and gwenview in KDE 4.8.4 is soprano.
Using the packages out of the unstable repository cures the issues.
Happy computing
