kde 4.6 Right-Click Application Menu

In recent versions of KDE4, I have been able to assign the application menu to the right mouse button. In 4.6, the only thing that appears is Desktop Settings. Does anyone know when the fix for this will be included in KDE 4.6 updates?

And, is it possible to move to a previous version of KDE in 11.4?

Thanks for any and all info.

Rigthclick on your desktop, choose “Desktop Settings”, in the appearing window choose “Mouse Actions” and choose whatever you want on every mousebutton.

That doesn’t work. There is a bug present in KDE 4.6 that effects assigning the Application Menu to the right mouse button. The bug is documented in bugs.kde.org. There was a post I read that stated a patch had been written. I’m just asking if/when the update will be available for openSuse, and, if it is possible to downgrade to an earlier version of KDE.

Thanks,

Actually it does work for me, i do have a diff. issue however, whatever I choose from my right clicked application menu always opens up two instances simultaneously…

it’s weird, it only started happening after i tried out an application launcher widget… now no matter what i do I can’t get the right-click-application-menu to revert back to normal behavior (i.e. only opening one instance of a desired app)…

Launching 2 apps was discussed in the bug report I read. If yours is the same bug, another patch was released that suposedly fixed that problem.

try this right click desktop, choose “Desktop Settings”, in the
appearing window choose “Mouse Actions” and then click “Add Action” then
press down and hold the Ctrl kee and right click the desktop…a new
action “Ctrl+Right-Button” will appear along with a “Standard Menu” next
to it…flip down that “Standard Menu” and select “Application
Launcher”…and click “Accept”

now, when you right click the desktop you get the standard menu and when
you ctrl-right click the desktop you get the launcher…

how is that?

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try to see if it works, but I’d really rather not have to use both hands.

ok, here are some answers for you:

Q: Does anyone know when the fix for this will be
included in KDE 4.6 updates?

A: you said the problem has a documented bug–the best place to find the
answer to your question is to go to that bug and check its status
because it will not appear in any openSUSE update until sometime after
that bug is cleared…

Q: And, is it possible to move to a previous version of KDE in 11.4?

A: yes, but it is not so easy and i can’t give you a step by step, but
it involves adding the repo for a earlier version, and then in YaST
doing some switch to early magic…i’ve never done it before, but i can
tell you i bet it is easier to use two hands than to successfully get
from KDE4.6 to whatever it is that lets you have what you want until the
KDE devs find/fix the problem…

Looking at that bug it is marked as fixed for 4.6.3 so adding the kde46 repo
which turns kde to 4.6.3 can solve it (if not now it will soon solve it with
the updates which come in from that repo).

Installation (zypper):

KDE-Repo with Alias:

su -
zypper ar -f "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4/" "KDE_4.6"

Increase priority of KDE-Repo:

zypper mr -p 50 "KDE_4.6"

Perform upgrade for KDE:

zypper dup --from "KDE_4.6"

Reboot and enjoy KDE 4.6.3.

Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.6.0 | nVidia ION | 3GB Ram

Thank you very much.

I updated one of my installs to KDE 4.6.3. While I could assign the application menu to the right mouse button, I also got two instances of the app launching.

please start your own thread…different issue should be in a
different thread…with a DIFFERENT subject line designed to draw in
folks who might know something about your issue…

From reading the bug reports, and seeing the results of my upgrading to KDE 4.6.3 I’d say we are discussing the same issue.
