I’ve got the same problem, and on
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/gmail-plasmoid?content=101229
it says " in openSUSE this requires the “python-kdebase4” and
“python-devel” packages," which I both installed, and I made sure the
ones you mentioned are installed as well.
The error message unfortunately remains the same.
I tried with
http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/KDE:KDE4:Playground/openSUSE_11.2_KDE_43/plasmoid-gmailnotifier.ymp
(searching for “plasmoid-gmailnotifier” on
http://software.opensuse.org/search yields some more involving other repos).

Cannot help you. Plasmoid completely crashes plasma.
Have installed KcheckGmail (kde3) :sarcastic:
works ok
hopefully kde 4.4 sorts out the problems with python plasmoids
I’m using a Superkaramba widget on 4.4. RC1 which uses Python quite extensively, and it works just fine.
