KDE 4.4 beta1 in KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop

Hi,

yesterday I tried KDE 4.4 from the KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop-repository. The new KDESC is really impressive. But I have a few little issues:

  1. kdepim-runtime was not installed by zypper dup. Without this package, Kontact ans Akonadi weren’t able to start. I think this is a dependency-problem.

  2. Nepomuk could not start because of missing virtuoso-package. This should be reflected in the dependencies from nepomuk, so zypper will install this automatically. BTW: virtuoso from the very same repository is too old, nepomuk needs >= 5.0.12. It sould be updated in this repo, after installing just virtuoso(-drivers/-server) from KDE:KDE4:Unstable:Desktop nepomuk was working.

  3. kdeutils is missing in this repository because of the compilation-failure of python-kde4. So I’m missing applications like kgpg and kwalletmanager. I hope this will be fixed soon. It seems that kdeutils in Unstable does not depend on python-kde4, but I don’t know why.

  4. mozilla-xulrunner-191-kde4 needs kde < 4.3.60. This dependency can simply be ignored. Does anybody know if there will be a new version of this? Perhaps with Firefox 3.6?

I hope this will help somebody while trying this repository.

Hey, for some reason i can’t get akonadi to work…

This is the error i get:

If needed i can post a full selftest report…

Everything else works fine, I really like some new features in KDE SC 4.4!

  1. We’re working out the best way to provide this dependency.
  2. Fixed in KKFD, now rebuilding - thanks for letting us know!
3 & 4. Known issues, work in progress.

Thanks for the answer. This are great news… I was thinking about switching to the UNSTABLE-Repo but so I will stay in Factory.

Or are the unstable-packages more stable than Factory?

Especially kontact seems to be very unstable in Factory.

The UNSTABLE packages will be updated every week whereas the Factory:Desktop packages are generally updated when there is a new beta. So UNSTABLE will stabilise faster than Factory as bugs are fixed, but both will end up in the same place when KDE 4.4 is released.

Hello, I’m using
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_Factory
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_Factory
Im Updating KDE regularly but last week I found a problem with the ** shared-mime-info> = 0.70** dependency.

To fix it I had to add the repository
Index of /repositories/home:/perosb/openSUSE_Factory

I know that the library is in the repo/oss factory of openSUSE 11.3 but I want to keep original repo/oss/ of the distribution 11.2 and testing only KDE factory.

Maybe someone can add shared-mime-info> = 0.70 to KDE Factory repositories to avoid adding additional repositories.

thaks !!

In that case you are using wrong kde repos. You should use these:
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

cheers,
Bart
