KDE 4.2 - Can I control the info boxes?

When a file is being copied, the info taskbar thingo pops up a message which stays for about 6 seconds, then slowly closes.

The problem is that when I’m copying lots of single files the RHS of my screen fills with these boxes, covering ¼ of my screen.

Is there a way of disabling them, or controlling the amount of time they are displayed?

Thanks.

Do you mean it doesn’t show the files being copied one after the other like it does in KDE3.5, from within the same pop-up? It shows one notification per file?? That is a weird design, what’s the purpose to display 100 pop-up notifications at the same time when you copy 100 files? Or I’m missing something…

hmm, well that’s odd!

I don’t get the “Information” option, I only get “autohide” and “Keyboard Shortcut”.

Very strange :sarcastic:.

yup, bit odd eh?

Wow. I am stunned, I cannot understand such a requirement from KDE. I often copy tens, hundreds and sometimes thousands (a folder with subfolders) of files in one shot. I don’t want 1547 pop-ups to pop. lollllrotfl! But I want to know about other notifications, so if I disable it… oh well, I’ll first make other things to work and I’ll see about that one after. But tnx for the heads up!

I’m using kde4.3 rc2 fyi

@Franksuse64 - Sorry, I might have been a little misleading with my description there, I don’t think it does it when using Dolphin or Konqueror to copy a folder or anything that is done in one big lump. But if you copy several files seperately, ie the first file hasn’t finished copying by the time you start to copy the next file, then it opens another annoying message box. For example, big files, or saving files/images from several web sites (using Konqueror) at once etc’. Then it fills the entire RHS of my screen with the darned things and I can’t see much else ;).

@caf4926 - Yeah, looks like I’ll just have to put up with it until 4.3 has settled down a bit. 4.3 was fantastic in milestone2, but I’ve seen a few negative posts about it recently and also had a few problems caused by updates recently, so I’m going to hang back a bit.

But can’t wait to upgrade once 4.3 is in it’s own repo, as 4.2 is now :).

Thanks for the replies.

@growbag you maybe waiting a long time  the only reason was due to the lacking features of kde4.1, and seems very much related to the respin of the livecd [opensuse-project] openSUSE 11.1 KDE4 Reloaded: Includes KDE 4.2.2 and 1](http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2009-05/msg00000.html) iirc the 42 is going to stay 4.2 whilst 4.3 will be kept in Factory. Maybe 4.4 in the next development cycle, if 4.3 turns out similar to 4.1.

growbag, ok I understand! Phew, it’s better this way, tnx for the precision.
