Updated my system from Opensuse 12.2 to 12.3 and since then I have experienced some random freezes of KDE Panel. I had KDE 4.11.5 already installed in 12.2 before update and didn’t have any freezing issues, but now with 12.3 KDE panel freezes for couple of seconds per time when e.g. hoovering items. I’ve tried to disable/enable desktop effects but no difference. Using Intel HD 4000 (i915). Have somebody else faced this problem ?
I believe that I got this fixed by disabling some extra repos and running dist-upgrade. Which downgraded some packages. So far similar freezing hasn’t occurred anymore. Originally I updated to 12.3 with enabled extra repos so that would make sense that there was some incompatibilities.
I ran zypper dist-upgrade with following repos enabled:
1 | 12.3-non-oss | 12.3-non-oss | Yes | No | NONE | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/non-oss/
2 | 12.3-repo-non-oss | 12.3-repo-non-oss | Yes | No | NONE | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/non-oss/
3 | 12.3-repo-oss | 12.3-repo-oss | Yes | No | NONE | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/oss/
4 | 12.3-repo-non-oss | 12.3-repo-non-oss | Yes | Yes | yast2 | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/non-oss/
5 | 12.3-repo-oss | 12.3-repo-oss | Yes | Yes | yast2 | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.3/repo/oss/
10 | openSUSE-12.2-KDE:Release:411 | openSUSE-12.3-KDE:Release:412 | Yes | Yes | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/412/openSUSE_12.3/
12 | repo-12.2-update | openSUSE-12.3 Update-Oss | Yes | Yes | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.3/
13 | repo-update-non-oss | openSUSE-12.3-Update-Non-Oss | Yes | Yes | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.3-non-oss/
So now try
Switching on the Release 412 repo, as that is what you have not 411
But this is an old image, just showing you the principle
Yes actually I upgraded from 4.11.5 to 4.12.1 after the first post. (Which didn’t solve the original problem). dist-upgrade was made with enabled KDE 4.12.1 repo so I think there’s latest KDE packages installed now.
Edit: During the upgrade to 12.3. I had e.g. Packman repo enabled what could have been the root cause.
