KDE 4.1 Upgrade

I’m currently running KDE 4.0.4 but would now like to upgrade to 4.1. Do I need to add any additional repositories (like those listed under “KDE 4.1 Factory Development”) or do I stay with my current KDE 4 repositories?

Stay with the ones you are using.

Thanks John. I will wait for the repositories to be updated.

I’ve upgraded to the KDE 4 Factory version and I’m quite happy with the changes. However I’ve experienced some problems with plasmoids between two updates. Not sure if they were due to an update without restart or an faulty update.

I recommend the upgrade unless the default repositories reflect the 4.1 release very quickly. Not sure if those are the plans.

The repositories you’re using won’t be updated, though. KDE 4.0.4 is the base version included with openSUSE 11.0, it’s pretty much frozen in place. You’ll need to use the build-service repos if you want anything newer. If you want KDE 4.1 you’re going to have to use the KDE4/factory repository that you referred to, the wiki should provide the links.

Once upgraded and with kde3 in place as backup
I started with a new .kde4
Just install the kde3base and destop patterns
login with kde3
rename .kde4 to .kde4old

add these repos to your list
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.0
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop

You may have to work through some dependancy issues.

*Some advice: delete exisiting ktorrent packages before ugrade
add again later

sorry I missed the 11 on the desktop
