KDE 4.1.3 vs 4.2.3

I see the 11.1 boxed set comes with the KDE 4.2.3 package and not the 4.1.3 that you get with the download. Is that sort of saying that KDE 4.1.3 is still buggy like 4.0.4 was that came with 11.0?

Yes, 4.1.x is buggy. Use 4.2- it is much more stable and has more functionalities:)

KDE 4.x has experienced ongoing significant improvements and bug fixes. KDE 4.2 was a significant release, containing many desirable features and increased stability. It is widely understood to be the first usable release, so is recommended over the earlier versions.

So if I download and install SuSe 11.1 where do I get KDE 4.2 as the download only has 4.1.

That is wrong. Why do you think that?

Also I am running 11.0 with the 3.5 KDE will 4.2 run in 11.0??

I was reading what software came in the DVD download, KDE 4.1 and the boxed 11.1 set 4.2.3 its in this site somewhere. Also see:
DistroWatch.com: openSUSE

Indeed, I just checked the boxed DVD version and it comes with the same version of KDE as the download version, which is obvious.

It’s version 4.1

If you want 4.2 you’ll need to upgrade through a repository as well on the boxed version.
The only difference between the boxed and download version is the 32 and 64 bits version being together on one DL disc, nothing more, nothing less.

Also I am running 11.0 with the 3.5 KDE will 4.2 run in 11.0??
currently rinning openSUSE 11.0 with KDE 4.2.2 installed. Just a matter of adding the relevant repos, and updating. Numerous how to’s and posts concerning the subject with a simple search.

There is a spin kde4.2 live cd here: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Medias/images/iso

Yes 4.2 can run in 11.0
Just add these repos and do update all unconditionally in them both.
Index of /repositories/KDE:/42/openSUSE_11.0

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE_42

I have to admit that I’m finding adding repos anything but user friendly or intuative here. Just how, exactly, do I add these?

Thanks

Repository Management - openSUSE Forums

When you add repos the default setting is the URL method, just use that and copy and paste the URL’s I posted. See above guide
You will need to set the Updates repo to 99 priority too

Thanks all for the information on KDE 4.2 and the repository locations.
