KDE 4.1.1 desktop disappeared

i seem to have got a similar problem as gibz 84 (KDE Odd Error) farther down. i installed the latest updates, there were files that couldn’t be found, i skipped them, and now i have got a non-responsive checkerboard as a desktop on the KDE 4.1.1 side. i logged in through KDE 3.5, but i miss my sleek 4.1. really apreciated some help.

I had this problem too.

What you have to do is to:

  1. Login to KDE 3.5
  2. Add the latest kde 4.1 repository
  3. Filter out kde 4.1 packages
  4. Force an upgrade upgrade to the latest version (there is an option in YaST to do this, I don’t remember what it is

The problem occurs when versions of some of your KDE4 packages don’t match.

Hope it helps

[li]Login to KDE 3.5 : done
[/li]
[li]Add the latest kde 4.1 repository : I though I HAD the latest repository. How can I check if it is the latest or not ? How can I find the latest ? Is there a way to be warned by a way or another when a repository becomes obsolete or, worse, hazardous ?
[/li]
[li]Filter out kde 4.1 packages : going to do that  I guess that if we did not have TWO different running versions of KDE we would be stuck here, correct ?
[/li]
[li]Force an upgrade upgrade to the latest version : What do you call an “upgrade upgrade” ???
[/li]
Thanks in advance

Hi,

the repositories which should be added is: Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0 AND Index of /repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.0 make sure that both are added.

Then start yast -> softwaremanagement anf select the filter for repositories select the qt repo and update all packages (right click and select upgrade if newer version is available). Do the same with the kde 4 repository.

This should do the trick. Hope this helps
