Hi I have a couple quick questions!
I installed KDE 3.5 into SUSE 12.1 and would like to know
How long will 3 be supported?
Can i use 3 and another user use 4?

Nobody knows. While there are people interested in keeping it. Same as for
anything in Linux.

the words in http://en.opensuse.org/KDE3 say “As of openSUSE 12.1 KDE 3
desktop is included as a officially supported part of the distribution.”
what it does not say is that there are very few people still running
KDE3 who come to these forums looking for question and providing answers…

other than to simple guess…]
however, there is a mail list populated with folks interested in
prolonging the life of a desktop which almost all here have
abandoned…i suspect that mail list is your best bet place for answers…
NOTE: that is not to say that neither you nor you questions are welcome
here…just that the number of qualified answer givers is extremely
small to nonexistent here…so if you ask and get no answer, now you
know why…

As a general rule you can mix KDE3 and KDE4 apps on the same desktop though you cannot run both versions of some (e.g. Kontact) for obvious reasons. I migrated to KDE4 by trying out KDE4 apps on KDE3 and I still use some KDE3 apps, notably KPDF, on KDE4.
