kaffeine

in the kaffeine media player i get an error when i try to play an video cd, (cannot find input plugin for MRL"vcd://. i am running suse 11.3, everything else in kaffeine works. ive tride finding the plugin in packman under vcd but no plugins are listed, ive installed all other vcd packeges there are.

So when you say a VCD, does the following link properly describe the media you are using as well as the included format?

What is VCD? - VideoHelp.com

Now, if you have your multimedia setup properly, then Kaffeine should accept all of the normal video formats. If there is any doubt, you could use the mmcheck script to check your multimedia setup here:

MultiMedia Checker or mmcheck - Check Your openSUSE MultiMedia Setup in Just 16 Steps

Now if the media is really a CD and not a DVD, that brings up a question as to how this optical drive is viewed. Do you have more than one optical drive? If so, you might want to look at the following information:

Multimedia Optical Drive Naming (ie /dev/dvd & /dev/cdrom) Howto in opneSUSE

Let us know if any of this was help to you. I can say that unknown media type, video type or just the wrong optical drive naming could cause the problem you describe. If the disk is OK, it should play on a standard DVD player as well.

Thank You,
