I’ve noticed an apparent bug with Kaffeine whereby one can freeze the video just by simply moving the mouse cursor off screen at the bottom.
This is particularly reproducible within DVB mode … instant freeze of stream, requiring Kaffeine be closed and then restarted to get the DVB stream working again.
I have, in limited testing (given I usually use smplayer for regular video media files), also been able to get the video to freeze with regular media video files, though I’ve observed that the audio portion usually continues to run.
I’ve tried with DVD, but it appears that this playback mode functions normally (or, at least, I’ve yet to come across this error in my limited use/playing of DVD discs)
So I use Kaffeine-kde3, which also works with openSUSE 12.1 and is in the same Packman repository. I have not had such a problem. So, Kaffeine uses the xine engine, in both versions and the kde3 version has the ability to expand the screen vertically (Ctrl-V) or horizontally (Ctrl-L) to fill the entire screen. Why not give this version a try and see if it has the same problem. Loading Kaffeine-Kde3 does not remove or replace the newer Kaffeine, just pick the kde3 version from the KDE Multimedia menu option.
I never got to the bottom of this problem (my thought was that it was likely related to the virtual desktop and the particular “dead area” inherent in my multi-dsplay setup). In any regard, whether this was a KDE specific bug or something loopy somewhere in xorg, I have found that it is not present in 12.2 and beyond (I actually have factory running, which is now post 12.2)
So it is good to hear that switching to openSUSE 12.2 eliminates the problem. It has been a while since this message was first posted and I was surprised to see a new comment, but good news is always good to hear.
