I am using 11.3 with all updates in place and version 1 of kaffeine.
I have been through the full sdb t/shooting page.
i also tried with and without pulse. Slightly better with pulse.
The problem is that i can open a radio program(using freeview card CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder) and sound will work OK but as soon as i alter volume or start opening other programs sound starts to skip.It ok when watching a tv program.
I get the same problems using a creative sound card as well.
I Have got round the problem for now be installing the kde3 0.8.8 version of kaffeine(superior version anyway) and sound works perfect.
But it’s starting to bug me why this is happening, I am looking for bug reports but there are a lot to sift through.
Any pointers appreciated.
Thanks sparky1964

If the older version of Kaffeine works for you, I would just use it. I do not use the latest version of Kaffeine either now that the KDE3 version has been moved over for use with openSUSE 11.3. The older version works hand in hand with xine and supports Dolby Digital spdiff passthrough for anyone wishing to what movies in 5.1 sound. The older kaffeine version supports Ctrl-H and Ctrl-V to re-size the video picture one dimension at a time for those who like a full screen while watching movies and don’t mind egg shaped planets.lol!
I am going to use the old version anyway. the new version is neutered and like something off XP.
I am going to post it on the kaffeine forums to see if anyone has same prob.
The main problem is if a relative newbie has this problem, It could put them off using suse(or other distros-i had same problem on kubuntu/mandriva/zenwalk)
Installing a kde3 app on 11.3 involves some minor dependency problems which can be confusing.
No, there should be no dependency problems. Don’t get the option/decision to change venders confused with a dependency problem. They are NOT the same.
If you are not getting it confused, and if you are having dependency problems, then either its because the package is not yet available (it typically takes a couple of months after an openSUSE release before the repos are fully populated) or you have added incompatible repositories.
I couldn’t find in any 11.3 repo so used 11.2 rpm. It broke a language dep (i think).
It could have been worse as i keep forgetting about 1 click. Got used to doing it the hard way from 9.2 And was just about to compile it myself.
On a side note I haven’t had any of the annoying sound probs since i started using the kde3 version. As I usually have it tuned into the radio for 12-14 hours a day.
Thanks for link, Both added.
Should have looked around more but when i added repo’s using add community etc and they was not listed i just used what i could find.

Happy to help sparky1964. When openSUSE 11.3 was first released, not everything had been setup and after it came out, it took a while to fill up all of the programs we all look for and use. Most everything is back to normal and present. Everyone that has worked on the openSUSE 11.3 release and its repository updates have done a great and tireless job for us all.
