There were some updates, but I’m not able to understand if some could interfere with Kaffeine that was working fine till yesterday, now it don’t start.
I tried starting it in console, but it simply hangs without any message.
Is anybody experiencing this behavior?
A program re-installation did not give any result.
Is it a kde4-kaffeine or kaffeine?
Try to rename the kaffeine directory to kaffeine_old in
~/.kde/share/apps/
and rename the rc file to *_old in
~/.kde/share/config/kaffeinerc
If you are using kde4-kaffeine then these files/directories are under ~./kde4/.
Good luck.
I forgot to mention that my /home is shared between OpenSuse 10.3 and 11.1.
In 10.3 Kaffeine works perfectly. I tried renaming kaffeine directory to kaffeine_old and kaffeinerc to kaffeinerc.old but this gave no positive result in 11.1, so I think there is something preventing Kaffeine to start.
Yes. But are you running kde3 in both?
And make sure you are using Packman packaged version.
I would probably create a new user for 11.1
you will still be able to share files with 10.3 user
I use Packman packaged version. And yes I’m running kde3 in both. Moreover also in kde4 there is the same behavior.
So, having tried to rename kaffeine directory and kaffeinerc, I don’t understand which benefit could come from creating a new user.

try it and see
you can always delete it. it can be very helpful isolating issues
I succeeded in repairing: the damage originated from the compilation of drivers from v4l-dvb-211ae674f601 that I wanted to substitute to v4l-dvb-e5ca4534b543 supposing the new ones should be better.
After issuing ‘make rminstall’ from the directory v4l-dvb-211ae674f601 and after a new compilation and installation from the directory v4l-dvb-e5ca4534b543 all went fine again.
Thank to all.
New is not always better.
