Kaffeine has Empty Video Field

Kaffeine has Empty Video Field, as in it plays a video, the audio comes out but where the video should be is just the screensaver background coming through, even after a reinstall.

Anyone else having this or had this?

Maybe too much fooling around trying to get my tv tuner card working,

Thanks

I assume this is 11.2?

OK I am getting the idea, man YAST seems complicated compared to ubuntu, but probably needs just getting used to, anyway

I can’t seem to do the last trick of “Switch System Packages” to Packman. They are all installed but I only get the Yast screen not Yast2 like in the ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing link. It seems a weird thing to do since if they are selected by the Packman filter already why do you need to switch them, or am I missing something,

anyway, here’s to the steep learning curve :open_mouth:

What version of openSUSE are you using? I kind of doubt you mean you are running yast as opposed to yast2

Are you using kde or gnome. If gnome then that could be your problem.

Post result of this:

zypper lr -d

OK here is a great link that shows how you can get the more functional Yast2 GUI, to appear in Gnome,

How To Get QT zypper GUI in GNOME YAST - openSUSE Forums,

and from here I could switch all my videolan repository software to Packman repository software,

I will tell you how it affected my problem after some fooling around with it, and yes I am using GNOME.

I know about the QT UI link, it’s in my multi-media guide section for 11.0 and 11.1

Arghhhhh, not too straight forward from my point of view but here is what DID and DIDNT work, for those with similar problems:

DIDN’T

  • changing everything over to packman from yast2 (though Yast2 seems way better than Yast to me)
  • zypper removing all the items from the install list, then removing the videoLan repository, than zypper installing them again
  • individually checking each one to make sure it was from the packman repository, or
  • removing Kaffeine and installing it from the Packman website with the one-click

What DID work !!! ,
was after all of this removing Kaffeine again and installing the KDE version from Packman and even that was convoluted,…

My Newbie overview opinion says it needed to be the KDE version even for a Gnome desktop (and Suse should know that, arghh), as well as I bet that the videoLan repo being enabled was causing problems when I should have only had OSS, non-OSS, update, and packman repositories enabled (strange rule for a noobie), no cross pollinating huh, hahaha:|>:(

now just to figure out how to get it to work with my analog cable!!! any help here would be great, please refer to …

well thanks Suse forumers for all your help

Well done
VideoLan is used to supply libdvdcss, that’s it. Then disable that reop or remove it.

If you are unsure about a version, there is also a version tab in the info area for the package, and there are radio buttons so you can actually select by the radio button.

BTW
11.0 support ends in the Summer I think
