kaddressbook groups

I have an old bugzilla on this topic. It appears to be dead.

I cannot make groups in my kaddressbook. The icon and the menu item are both grayed out. This happens the instant I select an address book, either akonadi or default.

I read a post sometime ago that made me think this might be related to mysql. But, mysql is running. About the only setting available in the menu is for ldap servers and its blank. Can anyone shed some light on this? Groups are useful.

I’m running 11.3 and KDE 4.5.2

strange, i can create groups in my addressbooks, and i’m using oS 11.3 / KDE 4.5.2 as well. recently i switched back from KDE release/45 to distro/factory, which has a slightly different kaddressbook version, but i’m not convinced that’s the reason.

before i could get my contacts & calendars to work properly, i had to do some fiddling with KDE resources in system settings. i remember that some contact list was working before that, but it wouldn’t update from google contacts or show up in kmail, so probably akonadi wasn’t picking up the contacts. perhaps have a look at your KDE resources?

Could you be a little more specific? BTW, I can no longer find KDE Resources in my menu!!!

i’m sorry, this happened a while ago and i don’t remember what i finally
did to get everything working.

you find “Configure KDE Resources” in KDE systemsettings; if you look at
the (default) icon view, it’s in the first row, under “Personal
Information”. there used to be a different view, but that seems to have
gone. i created and deleted resources from that dialog, and also from
kontact, etc. what finally got things working i can’t recall.

one problem was authorization with google. at that time (don’t know about
now) i had to set systemsettings - > Network Settings -> Proxy to “connect
to the internet directly”. that was happening anyway, but unless this
option, which so far had been empty, was ticked, no akonadi google
resource could authenticate.

In 11.3 select Launcher → Favorites -->Configure Desktop → Personal
Information → KDE Resources. You can then add a resource, edit or
remove a resource.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for pointing out the way to get there. I found a couple of boxes that were not checked: Contacts and Distribution Lists. I checked them and that did not fix the problem. I will try a reboot and see if that helps.

A reboot didn’t help. I’m at 4.5.2 (KDE 4.5.2) “release 10” from the stable repo.
