K3b Writing Errors

Hi all, I did some searching around, but can’t seem to find the answer to the error that I’m having. I’ve been using OpenSUSE for a couple of months now, and know there is still a lot for me to learn. I’ve been trying to burn data disks (photo’s) with K3b and I’ve managed to get a bunch of coasters and one successful burn. It always stops at the same place and I don’t know what the deal is. Here’s the error report.

If anyone can tell me what all this means, I would appreciate. it.

I just checked this disk again, and it actually had the files on it and I was able to open the disk. Still don’t like getting errors. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanx.

Sven

Tried another disk, and still get errors. It isn’t writing 100% of the disk. The original one I posted stopped about 96% and the last one was round 93%.

I actually dont know how and why this error is - BUT - I often had the same problem while using KDE 3: the only solution I found so far is to avoid live burning: Create ISO of what u want to burn - Then burn the ISO - works perfect for me also if it takes a bit longer.

Hope that helps

One possibility is that you are getting too close to the size limit; I have found that K3b does not accurately show the amount you can put on disk. I now allow at least 3Mb space on every disk and I haven’t had any problems since I did that. I suppose it is a bug really.

Thanx guy’s. I have just created an ISO of the files I want to burn, and am going to try it. The total size of the files I want to burn to DVD (using a DVD+R) is 4.4 gb. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

The .iso didn’t work either.

I think your problem is that you are not leaving enough space for K3b to write the directory. Try again with 4.3Gb of data.

I have 20gb free, can you explain what you mean please? Is there a way to guarantee that I have adequate space?

I mean the total space used at the bottom of the K3b window; in my experience, K3b will still try to write a disk when you have selected data equivalent to the capacity of the disk but you need to leave some space for the directory. So try to write slightly less data than the maximum shown for the disk.

Didn’t think of that, I’ll give it a shot after work. Thanx.

As it turned out, 4.3gb was too much for K3b to burn to a disk. I dropped the disks down to 2.3gb, and they burned just fine. I guess that data disks need to be less than 4gb for some reason. Is this true, can anyone verify?

I’ve never had to drop the amount of data I store on a disk that far; I see that you are using a fairly old version of K3b - so it is possible the problem has been solved in more recent editions.
