K3b Welcome Banner - How to Remove?

I have just started using K3b and across the bottom third of the screen is a welcome banner which takes up about a third of the screen real estate and only duplicates options which are available from the tool bar. I didn’t ask for it, do not need it and cannot get rid of it. Please could somebody advise how I can remove this.

While on the topic of unwanted features, using KDE and openSUSE 11.2 when I put a disk in the drive I get an unwanted message popping up which tells me I have put a disc in the drive and takes up about 1/8 of the screen. It will not go unless I click on it and then click somewhere else on the screen. How can I suppress this “feature” also?

k3b -> settings -> misc -> show splash screen, uncheck it

the device notifier window - you can grab the top right corner and shrink it , might be still bigger than you want though. Maybe removing or hiding the widget will stop the window the window from displaying(haven’t tried)

Hi and thanks but I think the splash screen is what opens when I start K3b and closes when the hints come up. I can stop these no problem. The bit I want to remove extends right across the screen with the words “Welcome to K3b the CD and DVD Kreator” and has three huge buttons on it and another with “more actions”. Try it and you will see what I mean.

ahhh!! settings -> panels then unclick “projects”

Hi and thanks. That did the trick.

I assume the screen which I find annoying would be classed as eye candy and no doubt somebody has worked hard on it with good intentions. It would be more helpful I feel, however, if more effort was made to sharpen up the documentation and make this more comprehensive. The same comment applies to much of what is happening with KDE itself. Brilliant software but needs more consideration from the point of view of those who have to use software for work rather than the software itself being the end product. Just my view. I still of course use it.

for LibreOffice you’d need to change the calls to the executable ex: lowriter --nologo

thanks!!

strange, i did that for a KDE4 panel icon and it ‘forgets’ the
associated icon…so i reset the icon and it then both launches without
the splash and displays the correct icon
