I’m recently having problems with k3b, had some with suse 12.2 too… I don’t burn DVDs too frequently but recently, I burned a DVD with about 1.5 GB of data with verify on and format for windows+linux. The burning finishes, doesn’t reports any errors and the verification doesn’t reports any errors either. But when closing k3d to check the DVD, Suse doesn’t recognizes it as if no media was inserted.
Suse does detects CD/DVDs and reads them.
I had no problem recently burning the 12.3 iso image which I used to install the current version I’m using.

sounds like drive(hardware) issue to me. Try Brasero.
That is what is so nice in these GUI interfaces. You never know exactly what it means. >:(
I would like to know wat the fs type is. You can see that when you have that DVD in use on openSUSE (and thus it is mounted) using
mount
and some intelligent guessing amongst the entries you see there.

Try burning at the lowest speed and see if that helps. Some drives
(older drives in particular) seem to have problems with higher speed
burns, and that can lead to the symptoms you see.

Burning software will always try to go for the max speed it thinks it can
do, but that’s not a guarantee that the disc can be read by any drive
other than the one it was burned in (and sometimes, even that’s not a
given).
K3b (and brasero as well AFAIK) just uses other software for burning.
By default on openSUSE 12.2 and 12.3 wodim (cdrkit) is installed.
If that is giving you trouble, you could try to install the original cdrtools instead: software.opensuse.org: Install package multimedia:apps / cdrtools
Also:
One of the “dirty little secrets” in the optical media world is that there’s
still a problem with certain brands of media being less than compatible with
certain models of drives, and it seems to be random. For instance I have two
laptops here with indentical software (12.3 & KDE 4.10). Each has a different
model DVDR. One will burn Memorex DVDR- media but not the same brand of DVDR+,
and using a Verbatim CDR with it is guaranteed to produce a coaster. The other
PC is fine with the Verbatim CDRs and the Memorex DVDR+, however about 2/3 of
the DVDR- burned with it turn into coasters.
Whenever I have a problem like the OP’s I first simply try a different brand of
media. If it works (and it often does) I stick with that brand with that drive.
americal.com used to offer an on-line database of compatible media for almost
every drive made. It’s no longer visible on their website, but there is a page where
you can select your drive model and receive an email with the latest firmware
for the drive and a list of compatible media. I haven’t tried the new service,
though I used the old page often over the course of about ten years and found it
very useful.

It will say “iso9660”. The options for reading it in Linux and/or
Windows will not be detectable.
For instance, the openSUSE DVD is readable in Windows, but it says:
> /dev/sr0: # ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'openSUSE-DVD-Biarch-i586-x86.001' (bootable)
We would need “isoinfo”, but at least in my machine it doesn’t work.

Well, variations in the dyes used in optical media can even render one
batch good on a particular drive, and one batch bad.
Thanks for all the info, I was using ‘Maxell’ DVDs. I normally use those. I tried the Xfburn program and selected 16x for speed. Burned the DVD, didn’t returned error messages and DVD is fine, readable. I guess it is K3b for whatever cause, like the DVD drive (LG) or the DVD’s brand (Maxell) as mentioned.
I know post is old but, I have same situation as user mhunt0, I have an LG DVD Burner, recently I burned 4 copies of the same dvd using Maxell dvd-r media, three were good but one failed, I have tried the following brands of dvd media: Sony, HP, RiData, Verbatim, TDK, Phillips, and only with Maxell had this kind of result, at least with this brand of dvd burner, so maybe the assumption that some cd-r/dvd-+r media is not very compatible with some brands of burners maybe right, just saying people!
