K3B: No CD/DVD Writer found...

That’s the problem. New installs of openSUSE 11.1 64bit on an ASUS-based desktop and an HP Pavilion laptop reaches this problem after about 4 to 5 reboots. Originally it’s OK. Hope 11.2 solves a lot of 11.1’s problems.

So is this just k3b that’s not seeing the drive?
From a konsole terminal

rpm -qi k3b k3b-codecs

post result

Here is the output: (Also, Brasero sees no drive)

zypper in k3b-codecs

But even if it installs, I doubt very much it will resolve the issues you have.

Seriously WHAT is that!!
39 repos and a mix of 10.3, 11.0, 11.1
And you expect your system to work!:open_mouth:

does anyone here have the ear of openSUSE developers?
shouldn’t there be (at least) a note of warning in the margin of YaST
> Software/Community Repositories to NOT go crazy and enable every repo…

i’m guessing that some LARGE percentage of the problems encountered in
these fora are the DIRECT result of n00bs who believe if the default
install of four is good, AND more is always better, THEN adding
another nn repos must be super-good…

OR perhaps the easy “One Click Install” is not always cleaning up
after itself…does it still default to (without WARNING the user to
NOT have more than four, usually) leaving the needed ONCE repo
enabled, if the user does not KNOW to just say no?
