It is isn’t it.
No need to be sore about it though.
Software bugs usually result in widespread complaints from users, where as Hardware issues are few and far between.
In your case and some others, hardware seems to be the source of the trouble.

Booted back to windows ( i have a dual boot system) and installed the latest firmware update for my GSAH30N LG-dvd writer and now k3b writes the CD until a certain percentage and then the same error appears.
PS: On windows is working well after the firmware update using nero.
Should i try nero for linux to see if the same thing is happening ?
Try xfburn. If it is not in the oss repo add the xfce repo and you will find it. It works nicely. Pardon me I did not read this whole thread, just to ask how you tried to write on the cd or dvd, down the k3b gui did you check the kind of media and the capacity in MB k3b is set to burn. If xfburn will not work it maybe a hardware problem, a hardware problem not by the hardware itself but maybe not being supported by openSUSE.
joerione: i will try xfburn to see if it works tomorow when i will buy some cds because i
m fresh out
When using k3b i have used standart CD from different brands and have 700 mb; k3b sees them having 702 mb.
I dont know what type of hardware issue is, because i can read old cd
s written with my dvd writer, and i can read and burn DVD`s … weird huh :X
Using nero gives me the same error after reaching 70 or 80 % … shize >:(
Why not try it the old fashioned way - use cdrecord to burn yourself a cd.
It will eliminate the whole gui pointy clicky thing, and print errors.

You got further than I did - inserted a CDRW, erased it, checked media and
it showed and empty. Then I tried to burn some file to the drive and it
insisted that it needed a writable medium inserted and refused to proceed.
Aborted and the tools menu still showed an empty, writable CDRW in the
drive. WTF??
On a happier note, k3b seems to be happy with about all the DVD media I’ve
thrown at it on several writers.

I have tried xfburn and after burning the 690 mb iso image the soft closed the disc`s seesion and ended with a fail warning saying that the disk is only 90% or 92% full. Is this warning normal for images less than 700mb ?
Not sure about the warning. I have not notice that warning before or I don’t payed attention the last time I burned a cd. How’s the image you burned with xfburn? Was it usable?

It certainly helped me.
joerione: yes it was usable, but i don`t know if i can trust it. Luckly for me that i have a dual boot
