K3b had broke my DVD-R, while writting OS image

K3b in Tumbleweed had broke 3x MediaRange (x16 speed) DVD’s, while writing OpenSUSE Tumbleweed image. Brasero write this image successfully.

  1. I order to write image, It starting writing, then show information that error has been come. It suggest maybe too big write speed was selected.
  2. I try another DVD (the same product) and the same case
  3. I reduce write speed, but another error came - it suggest to write in tao mode

I decided to use Brasero and everything works. I can bought more DVD and test other options, but I think this is K3b error.

As a test I have just burnt an Opensuse ISO (22022026) to a DVD using K3B and it worked OK. It was an external DVD writer - if that makes any difference.

I used to burn ISO’s to DVD quite often up until 5 years ago. I found that using a USB disc was a better way to copy the ISO. Opensuse has two suitable programmes in the OSS repo - ‘SUSE Studio Imagewriter’ and ‘Impression’ that can be used.

That cannot be correct. The TW snapshots are numbered YYYYMMDD . There will never be a date 2202-20-26 …

He possibly meant “20260222”. I have seen other reorder the snapshot date in a similar way.

Neil, I am aware of other date formats ( NL uses DDMMYYYY ), but checking cat /etc/os-release | grep VERSION_ID will never do something like that. And I just wanted to point that out.

I agree with that. People should stick with the actual VERSION_ID, and not treat it as a date to be put into the locale format. Unfortunately some folk don’t agree with that.

Yes apoligies for any confusion - I menat the then current latest ISO published yesterday.

Maybe hardware related bug? But (in this case), why Brasero burn DVD-R properly?

I don’t know the technical details but some “burners” test the media before the actual writing and adjust speed or other parameters accordingly. Maybe Brasero and K3b use different tuning.
