K3b DVD Rip fail - openSUSE Tumbleweed

I have never been able to rip a DVD on K3B before, but would really like to get this function working now.

I am running openSUSE Tumbleweed (12.2 base), upgraded to KDE 4.9.3.

I have followed Caf4926’s guide for installing codecs and libdvdcss - https://forums.opensuse.org/content/127-multimedia-restricted-formats-installation-guide-12-2.html

I also followed K3B’s advice and installed transcode from the repos.

When ripping DVD it failed on three chapters, after which i killed the process.

Attached is the debug report from k3b: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9507114/k3b%20debug%20dec2012

Have to admit it’s a bit hard discerning what the cause of the failure is from this. In the past i remember having an audio transcoding problem, maybe similar thing here?

Can someone post the full list of packages required to get DVD rip to work in k3b?

Thanks in advance.

Use k9copy
It’s so much easier

Handbrake will do it too

Thanks Caf4926. I used to use Handbrake on Linux Mint, worked nicely.

Wasn’t aware of k9copy, thanks for pointing me to it. Ideally i would like to use k3b, but oh well :frowning:

Unfortunately, it seems that k9copy is not being developed anymore:

That’s it, it’s the end !

Handbrake all the way. It rips (almost) anything to almost anything. Discovered it trying to help somebody in het forums, I was using k9copy before.

On k3b: is libdvdcss2 installed?

On my system, handbrake loads, but, when I try to rip a dvd all it comes up with in a terminal is Aborted. I run HandBrakeGUI, and that is the only error I get. I have tried the other rip programs and they either report an error, or flash an error on the screen for less than a second.

My setup is:

Suse 12.2 64, KDE 4.9.5, 16G ram, 2 dvd drives (yes I have tried the other drive), lubdvdcss is installed, along with the codecs from packman, it doesn’t even start the rip, I haver tried K9, K3b (packman),

Despite it being no longer developped, k9copy is still in the (Tumbleweed) Packman repo. I’ll try to find some DVD in the house and do some testing tonight, there’s a couple I still want to watch, and since our DVD player died we rely on minidlna on openSUSE. Pick something on the tablet, watch it on TV :D.
