K3b and Audex crash starting up - issues with opticals in kde4 unstable

preamble - they worked once (probably stopped late Aug), I am running KDE4 unstable, gnormalize, vlc, etc … work fine so the cd reader is working and seen by the os

when I run audex or k3b I get the errors below and the apps crash,

I’ve searched and posted bugs but what I can’t understand is why me and no one else (paranoia?), does anyone have any idea?

if I try to view in Dolphin I get “the process for the audio cd protocol died
unexpectedly”. Common error seems to be "QSocketNotifier: Invalid socket 10 and
type ‘Read’, disabling.

I’d say “I am running KDE4 unstable” is the key here what other repos you have??

I know it’s probably a “unstable” issue but what baffles me is it’s not being posted by others using “unstable”

K3b is from the openSuse updates repo (note: k3b from Packman crashes identically) and Audex from the extras repo
