JWM

I am using opensuse 11.1 with the gnome desktop. I have successfully compiled and installed jwm (joe’s window manager),
but I have not been able to get jwm to start even with a login
in text mode. Any help with getting jwm to replace the gnome
desktop would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

perhaps the first question you should ask here is:

Anyone here use JWM?

and, if no one answers you know you need to look elsewhere for
help…for example: is there a JWM Forum mentioned in the
readme…or, guess what, the google results of

“joe’s window manager” forum

was 394 hits, if i were you and wanted to get JWM going i’d start
there (OR, wait here until someone who knows answers…pull up a
chair and have a seat in our very fine waiting room.)

I am actually quite fond of gnome, but it runs somewhat slowly on my old computer (pentium iii, 600 mhz, 512 mb). I would like to be able to use an alternative window manager like jwm. It seems like it should be fairly easy to do, but, as I mentioned, I have it successfully compiled and installed, but I cannot get it to load or run, even from a text mode console. I have looked on the web via google, and I have seemingly good instructions for using it, but I thought there might be some special information I was lacking about using it on opensuse 11.1. I was hoping someone here might have an insight as to how to use jwm on opensuse 11.1. I will look again at hits for “joe’s window manager” and forum on google. Thanks for your advice.
