I used 10.2 without any trouble. While using the chess game ‘eboard’ I went into the game’s preferences, ticked the 3D box…and only a few seconds later the computer ground to a halt, no response on mouse click or keyboard.
I forced it to shut down and when I tried to boot again it stops more or less at the gate, a black screen with the words ‘Grub GEO Error’.
What do I do now? Is everything lost?
Confused Ollie

I do not think the preferences in a chess game have anything to do with the Grub
error. Are you sure the hard drive is OK? Boot any Live CD that lets you mount
the partitions on that driver and check them.
