just installed wireless pci nic

I just installed a wireless pci card in my workstation. The card is an Intellinet wireless 150N PCI Card. I’m using openSUSE 12.1. The thing is, what do I do now to get this card to work. Just completely clueless as to what to do next.

Help me plz.

The first thing is to post the output of ‘/sbin/lspci -nnk’ now. If you know
which of the entries is your wireless, then you can post only that stanza.

Not sure but thank it’s the last one. At least that’s the only one I don’t know what it is.

Big thanks.

The last entry is a modem.
I would guess that your device
is something like this:
INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS : Wireless 150N PCI Card
http://www.intellinet-network.com/downloads/6455-524810_datasheet_english.pdf
and may have a Ralink RT3060 Chipset with an ID like 1814:3060 .

I am not an expert like Mr. Finger but are you sure that your device is really connected?

Martin

pistazienfresser you’re more of an expert than I am a noob. And I’m a pretty big noob. Didn’t push hard enough. It’s in there now.

The driver is loaded. You only need to be certain that the kernel-firmware
package is loaded, and then configure it.

got it. thanks bunches

pistazienfresser: I followed this thread with some interest, although I am very much a Linux newbie. I need to be able to install a PCI card (Astrotek CP4SL) with four serial ports sometime in the future. For the moment, installing hardware is a bit of a black art, although I did get my SB Live card working last night. Presently I have Suse 10.0 installed and an accompanying SAMS Suse Linux 10 book to guide me. Also, Yast2 makes that pretty simple. My 4-ports serial card will be a different matter, although the installation disk includes Linux and a pretty inscrutable Readme file to go with it. I am pretty familiar with Windows and installation was quite simple under XP and Win 2K. My questions are these: 1. Now that Suse 12.2 is released, if I installed that would installation of hardware and software be any easier for newbies? On the one hand one would have the latest system, but on the other I query whether there are any current books or guides to go with it. 2. On the specific installation above (of the nic), you ended the thread with a slightly enigmatic “You only need to be certain that the kernel-firmware package is loaded, and then configure it.” OK, apologies for my ignorance, but, speaking generally, how does one ascertain that “that the kernel-firmware package is loaded”? Regards and thanks in advance for your time Carl

Welcome to the forums Carl. Your questions are valid and reasonably easy to answer, but I sincerely recommend that you start your own thread with descriptive title when seeking advice, as that will help attract the necessary and devoted attention to your question(s).

In general, much hardware is supported ‘out-of-the-box’ by the Linux kernel, and this is being updated constantly. Now, I would start by reading these guides:
