Just installed 11.3, CUPS printing stopped working

I have been using Opensuse since 11.0, and I never had any problems with the setup of CUPS printing (university based). Now for the first time, after many months of flawless printing using 11.2, after installing 11.3 the printing has stopped working. I use the same method:
Print via print server machine -> CUPS server (IPP) and I test the connection. In my 11.2 it shows “OK”, in 11.3 (I also tried with firewall off) I am getting the following (I have substituted the actual values with xxx for privacy). Any help is appreciated.

PING printer9.xxx.xxx.xxxxx (138.250.xxx.xxx) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from printer9.xxx.xxx.xxxxx (138.250.xxx.xxx): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.304 ms

— printer9.xxx.xxx.xxxxx ping statistics —
1 packets transmitted, 1 received, 0% packet loss, time 0ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.304/0.304/0.304/0.000 ms
/usr/bin/lp: server-error-operation-not-supported

Queue printer9 on host printer9 does not accept print jobs (queue may not exist or queueing disabled?)

Just wanted to add that due to the above problem and various others (not reading of credential file during mounting, not saving of display settings between logins, and I can see from the forums other issues as well) I decided to remove 11.3 and install Opensuse 11.2. I do not have the time to do testing, I thought a release would mean that it should mostly work, at least for what was already working (well, it did for the previous three releases). The printing works fine now again by the way, as expected. My five colleagues have been advised and none will upgrade their system.
Looking forward to the next release now… :frowning:

Just wait a few weeks for everything to settle downand 11.3 will be fine.

After initial install of openSuSE-11.3-64 cups was also not working.

So all printers via cups were deleted and then re-installed manually in cups.

Connection via ipp was not a problem. The Samsung colour printer output was garbage so deleted it in cups.

Then setup again manually via the Samsung applet.

Info seen in cups as follows.
Description: Samsung Colour Laser Printer
Location: level-0
Driver: Samsung CLX-216x Series (SPL-C) (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection: ipp://XXX.XXX.178.25
Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=iso_a4_210x297mm sides=one-sided

Printing via cups from kwrite, okular, openoffice-writer then ok.

This does not help you directly but the new cups 1.4.4 is working in openSuSE-11.3-64 both for local and network printers,
Although the look and feel of cups has changed and took a few minutes to work out.

Another thing you need to do is to check that port 631 on the firewall is open to allow ipp printing.
