java question and Evernote app (general)

Tried to post this several times via nntp, but couldn’t make it show up in the forums, though it does show up in what I am downloading.

Just out of curiosity, I am wondering why Evernote is not completely
cross-platform.

Here is my line of reasoning - Evernote is written in Java. We can run
Java apps on pretty much any linux system, right? Evernote is available
for Android (a linux distribution for devices), windows, and mac. Why is
there no evernote available to run and install on opensuse? How hard
would it be for someone to make it work, since we can run java apps on
opensuse?

I am sure there is a reason which has to do with how you implement a java
app on opensuse, but I am not familiar with exactly how to do that. I
run stockmarketeye, which I originally purchased for windows a long time
ago, and it is easy - they just wrote a script program that would
install the application, and the application runs on the java engine
that I have running on my system. It seems like if someone could just
figure out what code is necessary and write a similar script program, it
could be done. I would do it myself if I had the knowledge, but I am not
there yet.

I do use nixnote, an opensource evernote clone. It works in a pinch, but
often I have to load up evernote either in windows that I have running
in virtualbox, or in wine, in order to fix certain formatting errors
that come up with nixnote.

Same here. When it is your intention that potential helpers with appropriate knowledge look at your thread and try to help you, it would best be placed in a Get Help forum. In this case, I guess Applications.

Do you want me to move it there?

if that is the more appropriate place for this discussion, yes move it
there. I kind of thought that applications was more for specific
questions on specific applications, and I was just looking for a more
general discussion on how hard it would be to make the Evernote app work
in opensuse. But if applications is the better place for this thread, go
ahead and move it there.

Anyone can use OBS to build a version for openSUSE
OBS can be used to build stuff for many ditros like ubuntu, fedora etc…
Also if it is a pure java application they should provide a “jar” for download which they don’t provide on their website

You posted in General Chit-Chat, which is a sub-forum of Community and Fun. It says at the top:

A friendly place to converse about your adventures with openSUSE, your weekend, your boss, your new car, and generally stuff that doesn’t fit somewhere else (and we must ask: PLEASE do not post help questions here)

To me (and I am not a native Emglish speaker) this is rrther clear. Special the last sentence. But when you think that can be formulated more better, please say so. We are willing to take any improvement in getting posts to the place where the people that can help are waiting into considaration.

This thread is CLOSED for the moment and will be moved to Applications.

Moved from General Chit-Chat and open again.

Looking at the files installed on a Windows VM for Evernote, I can confirm that it is not written in Java.

Your reasoning is not correct, Evernote is written in C++.
