It seems that there is no way for me to install java plugin in firefox 3.6.
I’ve already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread.
Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.
Glad if somebody can suggest something. Thanks.
I’m using FF 3.6 on OS 11.2 64bit and my Java plugin works fine. Did you install both FF and Java from Yast? Did you look in the Add-on list in FF and see if it lists your java plugin?
I would check the latest version of Java for your system as the one you listed may be a bit old. I have sun u18, you show sun u7.
In Index of /update/11.1/rpm/i586 I found the two packages I needed:
java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u18-0.1.1.i586.rpm
java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u18-0.1.1.i586.rpm
I have installed jre-6u19-linux-i586.rpm on my openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 system. I am using Firefox 3.6.2 i586 because I want the 32 bit Adobe flash plugin to work better and it does. My problem is that I can’t get Firefox to find the symbolic link to the java plugin. I’ve installed it in ~/.mozilla/plugins ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins (I created these directories) and /usr/lib/browser-plugins. Is there some plugin directory I’ve missed?
I hope that somebody who knows more than me answers your questions.
Meanwhile you can check whether the java plugin appears in the list of installed plugins that you get typing in Firefox “about:plugins” (without the quotes of course).
Did you installed the plugin from yast?
This was very helpful. As a test, I could not get the Clock Applet working.
I went to the this link got the new rpm. Installed, then went to yast and removed the icetea version, then, re-installed the sun version (giving the opportunity to agree to the license) and wallah, the clock applet is now working. Hopefully this will do it!
