I've said it before

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. I absolutely hate the forum layout. In plain English it sucks.

Please just make it look and work like the other 99% of the forums out there, rather then the cluster **** it is now.

Thanks for sharing. If you want to provide some constructive feedback,
we might have something to discuss - but just expressing your distaste
and swearing at us really doesn’t help explain what you think is wrong
with it.

Kinda vague … provides no input … and frankly, of some 100 or more forum sites (each which have a degree of uniqueness due to target audience) which I know of, it really isn’t that bad, just different or maybe should I say unique. I don’t know how to answer you except to say I’m sorry you don’t like it but given lack of more details of where you think it went wrong, not much to be discussed.

As long as you get usefull answers to your problems here, what matters.

The forums should help, not being a piece of (debatable) art.

Why bother? You won’t change it. Just venting. I find it very difficult to find what I am looking for and many times have to “bookmark” some threads because I just can’t locate them again. Just hitting the main page makes me want to leave. The interface is horrible. If you can’t discern between swearing about the interface, and swearing at you, I fear any critisism at all, constructive or otherwise would be lost on deaf ears.

The old layout was great, this one sucks, that is as constructive as I will get.

There ya go, change it back rotfl!

well that is not true! if it were true that it won’t change then how
come it did change from what you liked…

of course it can change and of course it will change…i’ve seen it
change a lot, by user requests…(not user rants)

try using google for finding things in the forum! use the site
specifier like this:

site:forums.opensuse.org

as in

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforums.opensuse.org+why+bother+it+won’t+change

> Just hitting the main page makes me want to leave. >The interface is horrible.

it just impossible for anyone to figure out what it is you do not
like…as mentioned, try changing your forum theme/skin…or the way
you have your browser set up for font size/color etc etc etc…

describe the changes you want made, with the most important
first…and, maybe others wanting the same change will join your march…

At first I wasn’t too keen on the new styling, but I’m getting used to it now.

I understand you. I get how you feel. I don’t agree with you, but we all have our opinions.
Change is a part of life. This, I hope, we all know. Sometimes change is for the better, sometimes it’s not. In almost every case change is uncomfortable. Sometimes even painful. To me, this sounds like you are experiencing a rather painful change.

I also get the need for venting. Like anything, there are ways to do that. Some better than others. If I started yelling, if we were in person, you would more than likely feel I was yelling at you and not about whatever was bothering me. Whereas if you use things like “I feel…” in a calm way with out the cursing and yelling, then that is more openly received as venting.

As to the layout, well, I’m just a forum moderator and have nothing to do with that. That is something the admins do. Most people seem to like the change, and it seems your in the minority. Based on that, I wouldn’t think they’ll change it back. Besides, it is more inline with the new openSUSE wiki. Which makes sense.

There is no way to please everyone. I wish there were. All we can do is hope that the change grows on you and others and that you come to accept it and appreciate it. At least until the next change.

Is this a joke? There are no forum-skins. At least I wouldn’t know where to look.

Changing colors in your browser? Bad idea when nearly all the images necessary for navigation and understanding are placed as background-images.
Font size? Heck no, you can’t do that. Because then the text will just not fit anymore.

OK, that’s fine.

I could’ve reacted better last night - I was seriously overtired and it’s
been a long week. The vast majority of staff here (all except 1 that I
know of) are unpaid volunteers, and it is a bit discouraging to have
people constantly berating the efforts and using language like you used.

For the most part, this community is an outstanding community, and we do
see appreciation for our efforts.

We’re here to make things as good as they can be, and we know we won’t
please everyone. That’s simply not possible. Most people seem to really
like the new layout, or have opted to learn to use it, and don’t let it
get in the way of their fun.

i’m not laughing!

log into the forum and go Settings (top right, near your user name and
“Log Out”) then left side under “My Settings” pick . . .

WELL!! it used to be there, in the last version of vBulletin, i think
the alternatives were something like:

openSUSE Basic
openSUSE default
and one other, i don’t now recall what it was–they each gave a
different user experience…

ah, here is a post which talks about “forum skins”
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/forums-feedback/how-use-forums/408040-highlighted-search-words-terms-search-results.html#post1945862

evidently, this forum software ‘upgrade’ did as so many do nowdays,
decreases choice while adding complexity and bugs…

you misunderstood again: as far as i know the complainer HAS already
set font sizes/colors/other personalizing settings which conflicts
with the forum presentation and that is making his/her experience
unpleasant…

sorry, i forgot to mention this alternative earlier:

you might consider accessing the forums without the need to be
bothered with too large screen real estate eating icons and etc…

it is really simple cut all of the space wasting out and just get
the pure TEXT…the words…and, you can get all of the unread posts
to pop to the top of a list so you can easily find them…and lots of
other stuff, just by using nntp instead of http as the means of
interacting…

No offense but except for the 10minute timeout for edits I like this layout with the quick reply and advanced reply options.
I admit I never used the old openSUSE forum layout but I’ve been on worse forums than this one for layouts and replies.

Bookmarks are a good way to track topics.
