You could put wiki:// in as a URL and have it search Wikipedia and display
results.

Mmm you can in my firefox I have manage search engines => edit keyword
So change that to wiki
Now
wiki kde as the url does that, not sure about other browsers, though I do recall konqueror having similar bits but can’t remember if it allowed customisation.

Not quite what I was looking for.
If you don’t always want to search wikipedia, you could still keep your
default search. Instead you would type the URL as wiki://. Actually it
could work for any of the engines. bing:// google:// etc.
The Chromium browser has something similar to that. You type “wiki” and then you’ll be able to press “TAB” to search wikipedia.
mmm still not getting it so I have goo as a key word for google. Now goo kde will search for kde this is only the url input. Though to be fair for a non-url as I use opendns it will perform a crude search for me.
I think I’m struggling to see what you want.
In Konqueror you can type wp:KDE and it will display the kde article in wikipedia (type gg: for google). You can go in settings -> Web shortcuts and configure the shortcuts. Opera also has this feature - g for google, w for wikipedia etc.
This is the closest I’ve seen. Type “string @w” or “@w string” to search wikipedia for “string”.
For a somewhat similar effect, there’s Ubiquity - but they keep changing it so none of the code out there works for long. I can’t be bothered to keep up at the moment - I’m sure it’ll stabilise.

easy: in the Firefox built in search blank click the down arrow and
find and click on “Manage Search Engines”
then scroll down and find and click on “Wikipedia” (or if that is not
listed, click on “Get more search engines”)
after clicking on Wikipedia click on “Edit Keyword” and enter the
keyword you want for the Wiki…you can make “wiki://” your keyword
if you wish, but i have just “wiki”, so here i can type:
wiki kde
and, save all that extra “://” typing

Ah. This is what I’m looking for.
Thx.
