Issues updating YaST or adding software - "Content not found" error

Trying to update my fresh install of 11.3 KDE and I don’t know if I broke something (possible) or if something is going on with the repositories and servers as I saw there is maintenance scheduled. I would assume there are enough mirrors to rule out the servers. I initially updated & didn’t have issues this morning but I do now.

Some of the errors I get:

Warning: There was an error in the repository initialization.

File ‘/content’ not found on medium ‘http://download.opensuse.org/source/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/

File ‘/content’ not found on medium ‘http://download.opensuse.org/debug/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/

When YaSt does start, there doesn’t seem to be much there - I searched “Opera” and got “prctl - A utility to perform process operations”

Thanks!

-Eric

please show output of

zypper lr -d

I assume you get more errors then those you posted???

Are you connected to the Internet? Are you running behind any proxies?

Thanks for the help!

Fresh install as of last night, not many changes as of yet - and a newbie!

No proxies, posting from OS now.

It is almost certain you will destroy your system if you use all those together.

In any case the Suse Repos appear to be down. Try latter AFTER YOU DISABLE OR REMOVE THE excess Repos.

Thanks for the advice - new output:

I would change the priority of repo #3 to 70
then do this as su -

zypper dup

Thanks!

Zypper dup is updating my system now!

As an update - since I pulled all of the extra repositories I haven’t had an issue with YaST and am able to continue installing TT Fonts, codecs, etc.

-Eric

Hope it goes OK

I think I went too far with something and crashed Konqueror…it starts but as soon as I try to go to a folder it crashes.

As this is still a fresh install I’m going to wipe & start over - just easier for me!

I’ll make sure that I only use the repositories listed in this thread until I have a better understanding of what I’m doing.

I’m not sure what I installed but I was following a tutorial that I’ve used for many different installs :“The Perfect Desktop - OpenSUSE 11.3 (GNOME)” in a KDE environment (which shouldn’t matter). The last thing I installed was Google Earth (which crashes btw).

I’m also quite sure, by the look & feel of this distro and the awesome support I’ve received, that this is the distro I want to make work! I’ve recently been through Ubuntu 10.04, PCLinuxOS 2010, Mandriva 2010 & Mint 9.
Thanks!

Follow the guide here and you should be good for most things:
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

Sure. Sometimes a re-install is easier. It’s a good way to get the feel of things too.

BTW. Google Earth works just fine.

Thanks for the help!

Re-install went fine.

I’ve toyed with Google Earth in the past and never really had a need for it other than the novelty as most of the satellite images are out-dated unless there’s a newsworthy event happening. I did have it in Ubuntu.

I did an initial update after this install and will spend some time with the restricted format guide - I really don’t need anything too elaborate:

Dual users
Rip/play DVD & mp3’s
Browsing - most things can be done in a browser recently
Image manipulation - still missing Photoshop (may try WinE)
Simplicity…stability…virus-free

Thanks!
-Eric

Image manipulation
Gimp is sufficient for me. I have never used Photoshop but the way folk rave about it, it must be something spectacular.

Photoshop is easy to use & very powerful (more than I need) - Gimp has matured quite a bit in the last few years and I’m finding it to be adequate for my needs.

One thing that I do frequent is modify images for the web and Gimp is still “quirky”. I have used this plugin:

gimp-save-for-web - Save for Web plug-in for The Gimp

Which does work (doesn’t remember settings or folders which is annoying) but substantially less money that Photoshop!
