My sig says 11.3, but I just did a new install to 11.4.
I found a small problem with using openjdk 1.6.20 with one of my applications. I use Scottrader, proprietary Java application by Scottrade. It uses ports 80 and 443 for the data streams and I was not getting any data on 443 with openjdk. I stopped the firewall, just in case that was a problem, but it persisted.
I solved the problem by installing Sun java 1.6.24, and running update-alternatives to use Sun java as the default. Data on ports 80 and 443 are running to the application now.
Is this a reportable bug? I’m logged into bugzilla, and I could issue one. Thanks.
My guess is that it’s reportable in case someone cares but it’s also why it’s useful to be able to run different JDK and JRE. Not all JDK and JRE are created equally and unless you know how the software is written or the software documentation specifies a requirement you may need to try different packages.

sounds like a bug to me! and, by the way: most problems which folks
have with JDK are solved by moving to Sun…and, it will be very
nice when the open folks have cleared all the bugs…so, please log it…
I found problems with openjdk-plugin too, so I replaced that and FF is working well with Sun plugin. It’s probably time OpenSuse replaced their default java with something that works correctly, so users don’t have to. Logical?
