Issue after fresh install of openSUSE 13.1

Hello everybody! Yesterday, I installed openSUSE and I’m loving it so far, there’s just one small issue I’m struggling with at the moment and I’m not really sure what to do. I encountered the issue twice yesterday. The first time, I was just browsing the internet and then my mouse and entire GUI froze. I went to a TTY and ran top to see what the heck was going on – it appeared as though xorg was using 100% CPU. So, I restarted hoping it was just a glitch. However, later on I experienced something similar. The entire GUI crashed including xorg this time. I had a look in the /var/log/messages file and I found this line:

2014-04-07T01:04:19.063873-04:00 simon-pc kernel: 3318.558237] nouveau E DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon

Anybody know what’s going on here? Any help would be much appreciated!

I’m using an nVidia Geforce GTX 650 TI Boost.

Thanks,
Simon

Try to install the proprietary nvidia driver.

See here, you need the first one, i.e. labelled “For GeForce 8 and later”:

Hey there, thanks for the help! Unfortunately I’m having problems connecting to the site at the moment. Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks

Well, I used archive.org to view the website, managed to get the repository installed and the nvidia drivers installed. It’s going good so far so we’ll see how this works.
Thanks!
