As you know from my earlier posts, I’m new to openSUSE, and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me get a better grasp of this OS.
I’m aware of the current issues with Nvidia and the new 7.0.X kernel.
My question here is something else entirely.
One of my daughters, whom I introduced to Linux, would like me to install openSUSE Tumblebee for her.
Given the current issues, you’ll likely advise me against doing so.
My idea is this: to install the version I had installed for me, which was from January 2026, and not to perform any updates or upgrades until the issues are resolved.
If I still had that version, it would be wonderful, but… I deleted the ISO after installation.
Now, I’d like to know if it’s possible to get a copy of the January 2026 version.
I found some things on the OpenSUSE website, but I couldn’t find the Tumblebee 2026 ISOs (other than the current version).
Leap 16.0 uses kernel 6.12.x and the current problem with Nvidia affects kernel 7.0.x, so Leap is “safe” from that point of view.
Leap 16.0 was based on what Tumbleweed had about Sept. 2025, but then had all security fixes etc.
Unless your daughter needs “the bleeding edge” which is in Tumbleweed, Leap might be what she needs.
If the Asus system also has an Intel integrated chip it is very unlikely that she will ever meet with showstoppers linked to Nvidia (same here, BTW).
